Catherine, as a representative of the local Aboriginal people welcomed the conference onto their native land.

Trow welcomed the delegation to the Brisbane Powerhouse and was pleased to be hosting the conference and excited by the number of circus and physical theatre performers attending the custom built venue. He gave a brief history of the creation of the venue and the role that the local arts community played in this process. He then highlighted the distinctions between the traditional 'resident company' and the Powerhouse aim to host a variety of 'companies in residence'. Trow then introduced Catherine Oddie, Marketing Manager and Deputy Director and encouraged delegates to approach Powerhouse staff with ideas for future productions in the live arts venue. Stating that the Powerhouse hoped to work in partnership with performers to make the Powerhouse a venue responsive to the unique requirements of circus and physical theatre.

The following panelists were invited to present a 5 minute address on the philosophical concepts that underlie their work. Reg Bolton, Chris Becky, Joel Salom, Leonie Mills, Frankie Gasser Jnr, Linda Mickleborough, Robbie Hoad, Azaria Universe. Before each speaker, Mike Finch introduced the individual and provided background information.

Mike Finch pointed out: NICA Representatives, Angela De Castro, Byron Christie Frank Newman, Tony Rooke and Linden Tierney.

Afternoon sessions: Powerhouse Theatre

Mike Finch pointed out: Julie Richards (Setting up a flying trapeze at the Byron Bay Arts Factory), Paul Woodhead (Dubbo West School), Tim Smyth (Sydney Institute of Sport), and Nicky Ashton (Originally from Ashton's Circus, has separated to start a new group).

Face up to it

What are the issues facing our industry? Groups broke off into different locations around the Powerhouse for approximately 1 hour. The conference was then brought to a close for the day, with group summaries to be presented in the Taking the Ball session.
