Intro | Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3
Chaos and Synergy 2000October 20-22 at the Brisbane Powerhouse The conference was a fantastic, stimulating event with an impressive list of speakers and entertaining nightly cabaret performances. Conference Report Chaos and Synergy: Circus and Physical Theatre in the 21st Century The conference took place at the Brisbane Powerhouse on October 20-22 and had been preceeded by two days of Masterclasses. It was a fantastic 5 day event catering for extremely diverse interests of the circus and physical theatre industry, incorporating a main program of speakers, discussions and investigations, masterclasses, performances, circus cabaret, workshops, public lectures and photographic exhibition. Chaos and Synergy was a major contributor to the significant circus and physical theatre component of the ENERGEX Brisbane Festival. Please find the following report as a record/prompt/resource for your future work within the circus and physical theatre community. The report was compiled by the Association sub committee, from the notes made by conference scribes Kim Kaos, Jane Patton, Anthea Blaikie, Shelalagh McGovern and Kriena Ryan. Chaos and Synergy was mix of strong national content, diverse practitioners, amazing artists and international experience structured to produce debate, discussion, and action. Speakers were chosen for their ability to contribute to the articulate investigation of who we are, marrying art and business, and the role of the National Association. A fascinating list of the new, and not-so-new, faces of circus and physical theatre. Each of the days timetables contain links to detailed content:
We are currently preparing images from the sessions and cabaret which will accompany these notes at a later date so keep checking. If anyone who attended would like to contribute an article on the conference please e-mail it to catherine.oddie@jwcoca.qld.gov.au
