Head to Head
Head 2 Head 2003 – 5th National Circus and Physical Theatre Conference (Adelaide 13-15 March 2003) hosted by Cirkidz Inc on behalf of the National Circus and Physical Theatre Association presents the following conference program highlights taking place at Lion Arts Centre (cnr North Tce and Morphett St, Adelaide SA 5000). The Head 2 Head 2003 keynote speaker has been confirmed as Stephen Page, Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival 2004. Stephen Page is the first choreographer of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent to have achieved major national and international recognition. Following Stephen’s studies in dance at the College of the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association he has performed with Sydney Dance Company and directed works with Bangarra Dance Theatre. As a choreographer Stephen seeks to meld traditional Aboriginal ideas and motifs with those of the urban culture in which he grew up. The inspiring Stephen Page will deliver his keynote address on Day 1 of the conference Thursday 13 March 2003. This is one not to miss. Day 2 of Head 2 Head 2003 will see panels of discussion relating to Industry Training including representation from Godfrey Sim – CircoArts Head of School at the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology New Zealand. Jane Mullett will be an objective and inspiring addition to the discussion on Industry Profile following her return from France studying the development of New Circus in Australia, France and America/Canada. Day 2 of Head 2 Head 2003 will also approach the topic of Industry Standards incorporating discussion on Insurance, Safety, Training and the parallels between Contemporary and Traditional Circus standards. Day 2 will be complemented with the opportunity to relax and network at the conference meet and greet dinner. The conference dinner will take place at Caos café well known for its wonderful food and fantastic support of the Adelaide arts and festival scene. Karen Hadfield, Artistic Director of Adelaide Fringe 2004, will deliver a dessert style insight into the Fringe as well as her career path in the industry. Tickets for the dinner are only $33.00 Inc GST. Saturday 15 March 2003, day 3 of Head 2 Head will provide the opportunity to see the Cirkidz Troupe perform their Come Out 03 show,' gravitas', and Knee-high Puppets performance installation on the SA Museum Lawns. Adelaide will be alive with youth performance as part of the Come Out 03 (11-22 March 2003) Youth Festival over the duration of the conference. Head 2 Head 2003 is providing the opportunity for South Australian circus and physical theatre performers to showcase their work to delegates. SA performances will be randomly presented over the conference days, entertaining delegates and exposing the vibrant work of performers in South Australia.
