of Absurdity - Irrational responses
to the rational world, performers of peculiar fashion exploring
hilarity and magnificence with spectacular feats and delicious
eats. Absurdity is the answer. annually offers 4 terms of circus workshops for women
at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

There are still places, this term, in a One-Off Acrobalance
workshop being offered on Friday 8 June, 6:30-9:30pm, $35/30 concession.
This workshop is suitable for Beginners through to Advanced students.
No
partner is necessary. Learn duo, trio and group balances and have a
bunch of fun!
Women from the workshop program will be performing "Revolution",
about
renewable energies and based on the incredible skill of Chinese Group
Bike
that involves piling as many women as possilbe onto the one bike as
it is
riden in a continous circle.
The performance will be presented for the Winter Solstice Celebrations
at Northey St City Farm on 23 June.

is the Honeysuckle Boilershop. While crack trapeze artists and acrobats
soar above you, some of the country’s finest nu-vaudeville comedians
will delight you on the ground.

About Sam Dark: Born in Newport England,
he took to the seas in the merchant navy before settling in Newcastle
in 1882. He founded Dark's Ice and Cold Storage Works on Wharf Road
in 1914. It flourished into one of the city's largest enterprises, providing
ice to the local pubs, storage of fresh produce and occasionally acted
as the morgue. He was known as the 'Digger's Friend' for his tireless
efforts assisting returned soldiers, giving on occasion from his private
means.

Improvisation Convergence 2007
Thurs 7th to Mon 11th June
Lake Ainsworth, Lennox Head, NSW
NORPA Dance Action and Contact Improvisation (CI) devotees across the
continent are proud to present the Australian Contact Improvisation
Convergence (ACIC) #3! Now entering its third year, this annual
convergence is the most anticipated event on the national CI
calendar. With an exciting new location, ACIC #3 will take place at
The Lake Ainsworth Sport & Recreation Centre, nestled between Seven
Mile Beach and Lake Ainsworth - a tea tree freshwater lake.
ACIC #3 has secured the centr's brand new recreation hall, featuring
a multi-purpose indoor stadium with an"A Grade" timber sprung
floor
perfect for days of CI dancing. The weekend will be filled with
workshops, discussions, jams, live music and performances.
In addition, ACIC #3 now offers participants the option to stay
onsite, for the complete residential convergence experience.
Accommodation is in 4-5 person dorms 100 metres from the beach, with
en-suite bathroom facilities. ACIC #3 will be fully catered providing
delicious organic, vegetarian lunch and dinner meals (breakfast will
also be included for residential participants).Schedule Outline
Thursday Afternoon, 1pm - Opening session, including a "lab"
session
exploring CI skills and practice and a led jam in the evening.
Friday/Saturday/Sunday - Three days of labbing & workshops run by
CI
practitioners from around Australia. Suitable for all levels of CI
experience.
Friday eve – open jamming
Saturday eve – live music jam
Sunday eve – Improvised Performance event

Morning - Closing session, including structured jam practice The
Underscore. Lunch to follow. ACIC #3 concludes 1.30pm.
Afternoon (optional) This year, there will be an optional Monday
afternoon meeting for those interested in discussing the future and
development of ACIC – our national CI event. Concluding by 4pm.Facilitators
Jacob Lehrer will be joined by other teachers to run sessions over
the weekend

Circus Trainer job in Alice Springs
Position: Circus Trainer
Program: Tangentyere Circus,Tangentyere Youth Srevices
Number Hours: 37.5 per week
Level: 3, Tangentyere Award
Tangentyere Council manages the services, administration and operations
of
the 18 Housing Associations known as Town Camps in Alice Springs. It
was
originally established in the 1970 people who were camped in and around
Alice Springs.
Today, Tangentyere Council manages 198 houses for approximately 2,000
residents. Services now include aged care, youth services, CDEP, night
patrols, consumer rights advocacy, banking and environmental health.
Tangentyere Circus runs within Tangentyere Youth Services. It is a community
Circus for kids living on Town Camps in Alice Springs and works with
4 – 18
year olds. We run a regular training program after school and with the
learning centers during school terms, and holiday programs during school
holidays. The kids perform shows at public events. We have recently
started performing shows at Town Camps, which is something we want to
build on.
The hours worked during school term usually finish at 7pm during term
time
because of after school programs. Split shifts are not expected. In
the
school holidays it is a normal working day. There is occasional weekend
work
if there is a show.
You would be working alongside Sarah Gosling, Circus Trainer and Coordinator
if the Tangentyere Circus Program.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and Teach Circus and performance workshops to kids aged
4 – 18years
• Devise and put on performances with the kids
• Prepare healthy food for the workshops (sandwiches and fruit)
• Pick up and drop off kids from the Town Camps for Circus workshops
• Liaise with families, and encourage family involvement in the
program
• Collect Statistics and Data on computer
• Keep Circus Space clean and Tidy
• Other Recreation activities (ie: Swimming, excursions, Camps)
• Referrals to other services.
Selection Criteria
• Driving license (Desirable)
• A qualification in Youth Work or Community Development.
• Experience working with Indigenous kids.
• Senior First Aid Certificate
• LR Driving License
* If you have a physical theatre or dance background, and not circus

The Flying Fruit Fly Circus are embarking on a national tour from mid
June through to the end of July and require a suitably qualified and
experienced LX operator/technician.
The Lighting Operator’s duties shall include, but not be limited
to:
- Transfer of the Lighting Design into each tour venue in negotiation
with the Lighting Designer and the venue technicians
- Liaison with the Production Manager with regard to necessary hires
prior to the tour
- Overseeing and participating in the bump in and bump out of lighting
in each venue
- Overseeing and participating in the initial focus and daily focus
checks in conjunction with the venue technicians
- Plotting and adapting the lighting cues in each venue
- Attending all rehearsals as required on tour
- Control and maintenance of all lighting inventory on the tour
- Maintaining clearly documented paperwork as required

The Flying Fruit Fly Circus are embarking on a nation tour from mid
June through to end of July and are looking for suitably qualified and
experienced riggers.
The rigger’s duties shall include, but not be limited to:
- Overseeing all issues to do with rigging in each of the venues
- Bump in and out of all circus equipment
- Rigging duties for all rehearsals
- Rigging duties during the show
- Being ultimately responsible for the safety of the young artists with
regard to the aerial acts in the show
